When it comes to Wes Anderson, moviegoers fall neatly into two piles: those who love him, and those who’ve never heard of him. What’s that? His twee sensibilities are just a little too indie-quirky-cute for you? Well, "Moonrise Kingdom" may surprise even the most jaded viewers. Sure, it’s packed with Anderson’s trademark strand of oddball whimsy, but for the haters out there, you will find a well-acted and tightly written 90 minute movie with enough heart to melt the iceberg that resides in your frigid chest cavity.

For those of you who aren’t already picking up your Rushmore blazer from the dry cleaner to wear to the very first screening, here are five reasons to see "Moonrise Kingdom."

Children with Wilderness Training
Granted, "Moonrise Kingdom" is set in the 1960s, but aren’t you sick and tired of these anemic wimps with their "attachment parenting" and their "peanut allergies"? Heck, I sure am. In "Moonrise," you’ll find kids at their best: orienteering (sans iPhone), starting fires, and running through the wilderness wielding homemade weapons. Millennials, take note: kids used to earn merit badges not just for showing up, but for using every part of the wild boar he killed with the trap he made from a bunch of sticks and thistles.

Newcomers Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman
After months of looking at postage stamp-sized Quicktime movies of potential candidates, Anderson cast the young leads of "Moonrise Kingdom" perfectly. Gilman’s dark hair, glasses, and overall fastidiousness remind us of a young Max Fisher, and Hayward has the style and demeanor of a miniature Margot Tenenbaum. These charmingly deviant youths carry the film effortlessly.

Elite Scouts (or, "the Scouteratti")
There’s something distinctly Andersonian about a (grown) man in (a child’s) uniform. Edward Norton’s Scout Master Ward is a leader of men; or, more accurately, a leader of boys. He is highly trained and prepared for anything that could possibly happen in the woods. Whether these skills translate to real life remains to be seen, but in an Anderson movie, why would you be concerned with actual reality?

The Soundtrack
This is another pitch-perfect soundtrack for Anderson. The only popular tracks you’re likely to recognize are a few Hank Williams tunes that provide Bruce Willis’ Captain Sharp with an atmosphere appropriate for steeping in his own lonesomeness. The real treats here are the excerpts from "The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra," instructional 45s that break down for children the basics of classical music.

The Holy Matrimony of Bill Murray and Frances McDormand
Their relationship is embattled to say the least, but it’s nice to finally see these two under the same roof. That’s all.

Romance movies rarely offer a look behind closed doors. They'll show the couple on a pond ice skating in the winter or walking along the beach engaged in a conversation to define their relationship. But in this exclusive "Take This Waltz" clip, Michelle Williams and Seth Rogen mirror a married couple's everyday tasks as they have a small bout, following a scene of intimacy.

Williams plays Margot, a 28 year old freelance writer happily married to her husband Lou (Rogen). Their interaction in this clip sets up their visible love for each other. He looks affectionately at her saying, "I'm glad you're here." She treads over and wraps her arms around him as he's cooking breakfast. They end up in a giggly, playful embrace on the floor before things start to go south.

Their flirtatious banter comes to a halt when Margot asks him not to kiss her and call her baby at the same time. Frustrated, Lou gets up and continues making breakfast as Margot sips her coffee apologizing. And there lies the crack in her life that Daniel (Luke Kirby) may be able to fill.

When Margot meets her neighbor Daniel, an artist and rickshaw driver, she quickly begins falling for him. Soon she gives into her desire to be close to him and starts exploring this new relationship—despite her reservations telling her to stay away.

"Take This Waltz" hits theaters on June 29.

Sadly, the picture above is not from the set of a "Steel" prequel. A boy can dream, can't he? It is, in fact, from the set of "Grown Ups 2," which, to be clear, is not a prequel to "Steel."

KanyeFROM MTV NEWS: Those of you who thought 3-D was an experience, you ain't seen nothin' yet! When Kanye West's experimental film "Cruel Summer" debuted at Cannes this week, it wasn't just a premiere, it was an event.

MTV News was on hand to witness the short film displayed on seven separate screens, alternating between different camera angles of one shot and a single wide screen display.

"I was very particular about having the screens separate, where your mind puts the screens back together, the way you put memories together," the rapper said. "I'm not the best director in the world, but I had an idea that I thought would be amazing to inspire people, like a dream of one day this being the way people watch movies."

The 30-minute film follows a high-end car thief, played by Kid Cudi, who falls for a blind Arabian princess, but isn't allowed to marry her until he helps her see (figuratively, of course).

Check out our full coverage of "Cruel Summer" over at MTV News, and read what Cudi tells us about watching himself on-screen.

text Gary Oldman Will Build 'RoboCop'

Gary Oldman

Jose Padilha's "RoboCop" occupies a curious spot on our anticipation meter. On one hand, who can say "no" to a remake of the 80s classic directed by the guy behind the badass Brazilian action flicks, "Elite Squad" and "Elite Squad: The Enemy Within"? That premise alone had us interest, but casting Joel Kinnaman had us scratching our heads a bit.

Thankfully, Gary Oldman has come along to make things very clear for us.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Academy Award-nominated actor is joining the remake, tentatively scheduled to come out next summer. And we can confirm that we're officially on board with the "RoboCop" remake.

Learn more after the jump!

According to the report, Oldman will play Norton, the brilliant scientific mind who saves Officer Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) from the brink of death and creates everyone's favorite cyborg cop.

Like any good "RoboCop" movie, Norton will have to wrestle with the fact that part of his creation is still human, yet he still has a job to do and an evil corporation to answer to.

The THR report also declares Oldman the "top-grossing actor of all-time," a claim we're not entirely sure is accurate. Though Oldman certainly has his fair share of hits between Christopher Nolan's Batman films and the Harry Potter franchise, that honor is usually credited to Samuel L. Jackson, whose name graces the credits of both "Star Wars" and Marvel Universe movies.

text 'Fringe' Snags Science Channel Syndication Deal
Thu, 24 May 2012 19:53:36 +0000

Don’t fret "Fringe" fans! As the show enters its final season this fall comes word that the Science Channel will air the show in syndication. The two universes will live on!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Science Channel has bought off-network syndication rights to the Fox sci-fi drama, meaning that Warner Bros. TV, the studio behind the show, can offer up more syndication rights to a streaming service as well. With season five premiering this fall, the news breathes new life into the low-rated, but much-loved show.

The deal makes sense given that in this fifth season the show will reach the 100-episode mark making it ripe for syndication. The final season has a 13-episode order. On the Science Channel the show will be in good company joining Rickey Gervais’ travel series, "An Idiot Abroad," as well as Nathan Fillion’s own cult drama, "Firefly." In addition, "Fringe" star John Noble hosts the network's "Dark Matters: Twisted But True," a six-part documentary series. It looks to us like "Fringe" and Science Channel will be fast friends.

As for the last season of "Fringe," show co-creator J.J. Abrams said in a recent statement, "We are thrilled and beyond grateful that Fox — and our fans — have made the impossible possible: 'Fringe' will continue into a fifth season that will allow the series to conclude in a wild and thrilling way. All of us at Bad Robot are forever indebted to our viewers and the amazingly supportive Fox network for allowing the adventures of Fringe Division to not only continue, but to resolve in a way that perfectly fits the show."

I'll admit it: I'm a bit heartbroken by the new "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" release date. In case you're late to the news, the second "G.I. Joe" flick has been pushed back from its original June 29 release date, now scheduled to arrive on land, sea and air on March 29, 2013. That's a full nine months later than it was supposed to hit. It's tough news to swallow for "Joe" fans far and wide, but leading man Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is staying positive.

Johnson took to Twitter to confirm the news of the new "Joe" release date, writing: "Commitment to make GI JOE a massive world event just got bigger. New release 3/29/13. Rock + Ass kickins + 3D = #AwwwwS---." He also confirmed reports that the film's planned 3-D conversion will require reshoots; according to Johnson, the Paramount team is "designing new scenes to enhance 3D."

Even with Johnson's optimism, it's not easy to share his outlook. Still, I'd rather see an awesome "G.I. Joe" movie further down the line than a sub-par "G.I. Joe" movie in just a month, and I'm hopeful that the delay gives Jon Chu and his colleagues enough time to get everything exactly right. In the end, I echo the notion of another of Rock's followers, @DDPYogaDad: "I'm patient, boss. Don't mind waiting to see @TheRock & Bruce Willis putting #Boots2Asses in 3D." True enough.

Running home to catch "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" after school as a kid, I never would've thought that 15 years later I'd be standing on the deck of the USS Intrepid watching Will Smith lead the crowd in singing the famous theme song. But that's exactly what I experienced last night.

Columbia Pictures treated the guests of the "Men in Black 3" premiere to a special after party on the ship docked at New York's Pier 86. As I walked on board I was greeted—or rather eyed—by men in black lining the balcony around the colorfully lit stage, letting us know not even the aliens in "Battleship" could get past these guys.

After guests had their fill of Asian noodles, hot dogs, donuts, mini ice cream cones and special "MIB3" cocktails—I opted for the Andy Warhol, a mix of Bombay Sapphire and orange juice—they began a special fireworks tribute to the many troops in attendance for Fleet Week. During the elaborate display of American pride, I noticed a group gathering to my right snapping pictures. In the middle of the circle was professional snowboarder and skateboarder Shaun White, happily greeting the many sailors and children heading his way.

Not 10 minutes after sighting the athlete, I spied a flock of young girls walking towards me as they followed One Direction to the bathroom. Don't you know you can't separate a girl and her beloved boy band? But as much as my inner tween loves British boys who can sing and dance, the best part of the night came in the form of performances.

Pitbull hit the stage first singing the film's theme song "Back in Time" and his hit "Give Me Everything," followed by Jaden Smith who brought out Big Willie himself to sing "Men in Black" and "Summertime"—along with that iconic theme song that was a staple of my childhood.

Despite all the media surrounding his recent bout with a reporter, Smith was a bundle of positive energy. Earlier that night he couldn't stop talking while director Barry Sonnenfeld gave his opening speech before the film's Ziegfeld premiere. Finally, with mock anger, Sonnenfeld yelled his name and threatened to separate him and Tommy Lee Jones—his partner in the movie and in crime, apparently. As Smith then headed to his seat, he shouted, "All right, where're my wife and kids?" making the audience erupt in laughter.

That audience laughter was apparent throughout the whole film as Smith's charisma shines—not only in his one-liners, but in his chemistry with Josh Brolin as well. The movie is sure to entertain families and fans of the "Men in Black" franchise, and with an unexpected ending, ties the three films together.

text 'Prometheus' Clip: Charlize Theron Will Cut You
Thu, 24 May 2012 17:52:54 +0000

Prometheus

The latest piece of the extensive "Prometheus" marketing campaign debuted last night on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," and we are now one step closer to having seen the entire film before it debuts in two weeks.

This newest bit of sci-fi goodness from Ridley Scott features a very badass Charlize Theron as Meredith Vickers, a Weyland Industries representative with attitude.

The clip — like most things associated with "Prometheus" — should be considered a spoiler, so if you're wishing to see it with all secrets intact, you might not want to see the video after the jump.

The clip comes compliments of Prometheus Forum, and doesn't give away too much (or really anything at all) about the plot of the film.

In the clip Vickers faces down David 8, played by Michael Fassbender in what already looks like a very special performance. It's hard to pull any context out of the clip, but Vickers and David seem to have a disagreement about a message the android received. As a sort-of prequel to "Alien," it's not hard to imagine that David would pull an Ash and go against the wishes of his human shipmates in order to follow some maniacal orders from corporate.

The snippet does give us a better look at a Theron's character and the kind of threats she's willing to make in order to get out alive.

"Prometheus" hits theaters on June 8.

Sony video game "Shadow of the Colossus" is being developed into a feature, with "Chronicle" director Josh Trank signed on to the project — he also happens to be a big fan of the game.

When a young man believes his lover to be dead, he heads to a "forbidden land" to summon a demon that can wake her. In order to bring the woman back to life, however, he needs to slay 16 colossi. They're massive, "skyscraper-sized giants" that rise from the ground, fly through the air, and dwell in the water. Soon, the man questions his pursuit and wonders if he's made a deal with the devil.

Let us know if you're a fan of the video game and if you believe Trank can do the adaptation justice. In the meantime, keep on reading for more Horror Bites!

'The Apparition' Gets a Ghostly New Trailer
This August, Warner Bros. will unleash "The Apparition," and the first trailer for Todd Lincoln's paranormal tale has finally arrived. Ashley Greene ("Twilight"), Sebastian Stan ("Black Swan"), Luke Pasqualino, Julianna Guill ("Friday the 13th"), and Tom Felton ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes") star in the story about a group of students performing a parapsychology experiment who conjure a tormenting apparition that feeds on their fears. Look for the movie in theaters on August 24.

David Hasselhoff Goofs around on 'Piranha 3DD' Featurette
The Hoff appears in a new featurette promoting killer fish tale "Piranha 3DD." He sings, he romances the ladies, he runs in a slow motion montage with music. What more could we ask for? "Feast" director John Gulager directs the summer film fun starring Danielle Panabaker, Christopher Lloyd, and Ving Rhames about the terrifying descent of bloodthirsty piranha on a water park.

Abigail Breslin Gets Gory in 'Final Girl'
The adorable little girl in "Little Miss Sunshine" Abigail Breslin is all grown up and getting gory in "Final Girl." Deadline reports that the "Zombieland" actress will be working with photographer Tyler Shields — who you'll remember as the guy that shot a few recent sexy (and weird) images of Lindsay Lohan. He'll be making his directorial debut with the film about "a pack of feral teenage boys who choose the wrong girl to be the victim of their final "initiation." We can't wait to see her kick more ass. Are you feeling the "Dead Girl" vibes too?

Jessica Biel's 'The Tall Man' Arriving in Theaters This Summer
"Martyrs" director Pascal Laugier has found a home for his new horror film "The Tall Man," starring Jessica Biel. According to a fan website dedicated to the actress, the creepy kid tale will be in theaters on August 31. Biel plays a nurse and mother living in the strange town of Cold Rock. Children go missing there far too often to be coincidental, and Biel's son eventually follows suit. She never believed in urban legends, until she spies her son's kidnapper — a huge, dark figure that mysteriously evades her chase. After Biel's appearance in the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake in 2003, are you excited to see her get back to terror flicks?

'Godzilla' Remake Still Going Strong
"Monsters" director Gareth Edwards finally gave an update about his remake of the classic creature film: "It's going great, and I'm genuinely excited about it. We're just working really hard with Legendary, who have been fantastic. Thomas Tull has just been an absolute pleasure and nothing like the experience they warn you about when you go to Hollywood. I can't say much other than I hope that we'll have some proper news soon. So you won't have to wait too long at all." Bring on the monster mayhem, we say. Does Guillermo del Toro's similar homage to Japanese monster movies "Pacific Rim" have a fierce competitor here?
