The first state title of Demetris Morant’s senior year was a foregone conclusion. The last two were a bit of a surprise. Behind teammate Shabazz Muhammad’s 30 first-half points, Bishop Gorman rolled to the 4A state basketball title in Reno last February with a 96-51 victory against Hug High. There was never any doubt. Morant’s most recent trip to Reno was a much different experience.
The 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas will feature a record 24 teams, the NBA announced Thursday. The summer league, which returns to the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion after skipping last season because of the NBA labor dispute, is 60 games from July 13-22. Each team will play five games.

Getting punched in the face, Stipe Miocic will say succinctly, was never his thing.
The former two-sport Division-I athlete would lend a hand to professional fighters in the Cleveland area looking for help with their wrestling, but he wasn’t seeking a career in mixed martial arts.
"My coaches were like, ‘You’re going to fight,’" Miocic said. "I was like, ‘Eh, we’ll see.’"

"I was the crazy Brazilian," Brandao said.

Plans for the UNLV basketball team’s summer trip to Canada were released Friday. The Rebels will play four exhibition games north of the border from Aug. 16 to 22 during their stay in Ottawa and Montreal. In Ottawa, they will play Aug. 18 against Carleton University and Aug. 19 against Ottawa University. Games in Montreal will be played Aug. 20 and 21 against a to be determined opponent.
