Recoll 1.17.3(KDE Other Utility)
Recoll is a personal full text search tool for Unix/Linux.
It is based on the very strong Xapian backend.
It provides an easy to use, feature-rich interface with a Qt GUI.
Most common document types are supported are supported along with their compressed versions (Text, HTML, PDF, Dvi, PostScript, Openoffice, Lyx, Scribus, Word/Excel/PPT, Abiword, Kword, Wordperfect, RTF, djvu, gaim logs, maildir and mailbox mail folders including attachments, misc media files).
Powerful query facilities are provided from simple keyword entry to assisted boolean query building with proximity clauses, filtering on file types or location. A Xesam-compatible query language also supports field searches, and date filtering.
Multiple character sets are supported. Internal processing and storage uses Unicode UTF-8.
Recoll has few dependancies. No database daemon, Web server, or exotic language/framework is necessary. Installation is easy.
Indexing can be performed in batch mode or in real time.
Thanks to Xapian, indexing does not tax system resources excessively and searching is very fast.
changelog:
Release 1.17.3 fixes an email indexing crash.
Release 1.17.2 fixes a few minor bugs in 1.17.0, like thumbnails not showing up for some files or incomplete output from the chm filter.
Release 1.17.0 brings a number of usability improvement: management of indexing operations from the GUI, filtering on file size, extended directory filtering, Ubuntu Unity Lens, thumbnails in result lists, Okular notes and Gnumeric filters, etc.
Release 1.16.2 fixes a number of minor to ennoying bugs, especially a bug with the result list links on newer Qt releases. See http://www.lesbonscomptes.com/recoll/BUGS.html#b_1_16_1
Release 1.16.1 fixes a severe bug in 1.16.0, where the GUI had a good chance to crash when running a query while the indexing thread was running.
Release 1.16.0 brings a long list of small improvements and bug fixes. Image previews, negative directory filtering, anchored searches, more popup menu entries, etc. Please check the release notes for details (http://www.recoll.org/release-1.16.html).
Release 1.15 (.9): Enhanced native Qt 4 user interface (no more Qt 3 compatibility). Switchable table-like display for the results. Direct access to sort functions. Negative directory filtering. Web archive formats.
Release 1.14 (.3): Modification date searches and filtering. New GNU info filter. Improved Thunderbird mail indexing. Other small bug fixes. date searches and filtering, arbitrary email header indexing, new audio tag extractor based on the Mutagen Python library, and miscellaneous other improvements.
Release 1.13 (.04): New class of persistent filters and indexed file types: zip, chm, ics. Improved big text files handling, Firefox visited pages indexing. Quite a few other performance and usability improvements.
Release 1.12: new KDE KIO slave module, collapsing of identical results, context-sensitive F1 help, saving email attachments and other embedded documents to files, and other small improvements and bug fixes.
Release 1.11: easy filtering of results by document type, nicer previews which use html when possible, python programming interface for indexing and searching, better support for the Xesam user query language, new filter framework, better support for arbitrary field indexing and searching.
Release 1.10:
- Created mailing-list to improve support. Check home page.
- Fixed openSuse 11 compile issues.
- Fixed bug in interpreting email mime structure, which resulted in base-64 decoding errors.
- Fixed "Prev" button in preview window. Would actually go forward when walking the search terms.
- Allow setting the highlight color for search terms in result list and preview
- Added svg filter
- Ensure that in case the data of a file can't be indexed because of some error, at least the file name is indexed.
- Improve query language to support OR queries of terms with field specifications (ie: title:someterm OR author:someauthor).
- Fix filename search to split patterns on white space, so that a "*.jpg *.jpeg" search does what's expected. Means you now need to use double-quotes if there is actual embedded white space.
- Jump directly to the external editor choice dialog instead of opening preferences when an external viewer is not found.
- Allow stopping indexing through menu action (only works with qt4 for now).
- Create an "indexedmimetypes" configuration variable to allow explicitely restricting the file types which do get indexed.
- Adds support for CJK text, and a GUI configuration tool for the main configuration file.
Release 1.9: This release brings a number of small practical improvements: new filters: Wordperfect, Abiword, Kword, jpeg, flac, ogg; better control of disk and memory usage during indexing; improved abstract generation; arbitrary field support; improved qt4 support; and miscellaneous user interface improvements and bug fixes, described in more detail in the Changes file.

Cantata 0.7.1(KDE Sound Application)
Cantata is a (yet another!) client for the music player daemon (MPD). Originally started as a fork of QtMPC, the code is now *very* different. To be true to QtMPCs origins, Cantata can be compiled with KDE support, or as a pure Qt4 application (however, note that this is not fully tested). The interface is very configurable - most views can be shown as either a list or tree structure.
Currently Cantata has the following views:
1. Library - sorted as Album Artist (or Artist if Album Artist not set), Album, and finally Track.
2. Albums - displays albums as icons, sorted by their title.
3. Folders - displays MPDs virtual filesystem. (This view is hidden by default)
4. Playlists
5. Dynamic - dynamic playlists
6. Streams - allows saving of internet radio URLs
7. Lyrics
8. Info - if compiled with WebKit, displays artist/album information from wikipedia
9. Server Info - shows MPDs statistics. (This view is hidden by default)
10. Devices - enables copying from/to USB-Mass-Storage (UMS) and MTP devices. (KDE build only)
The sidebar has a context menu, allowing you to control its style and what items are shown.
See http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Client:Cantata for more information.
changelog:
0.7.1
-----
1. When saving track name to cache, save the actual name, no the displayed name.
2. Attempt to fix errors in cache where the displayed name was saved.
3. Fix tag-editor's 'Various Artists' workaround when all tracks is selected.
4. Set minimum font size for info page.
5. Only automatically start playing songs if we are replacing the playqueue, or the song is the first song added via the commandline.
6. Fix transcoding with new ffmpeg - thanks to Martin Blumenstingl for the patch.
7. Have cantata-dynamic helper script send a dbus message when it starts and stops - so that cantata main window can show the current status if the helper is started externally.
8. When 'Return'/'Enter' is pressed when play queue has focus, start playing from the first selected song.
9. Fix Qt-only install failure (cannot find RUNTIME)
0.7.0
-----
1. Add dynamic playlist support.
2. Fix detection of non standard filename covers.
3. Clear any existing search when 'Locate In Library' is activated.
4. In tag-editor, only set placeholder text to '(Various)' for fields wherethere are actually some values set.
5. Add now playing info to MPRIS interface - thanks to Martin Blumenstingl for the patch.
6. Better, less hacky, workaround for QAbstractItemView shift-select bug (https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-18009). Thanks to Spitfire
from qtcentre.org forums for fix.
7. Add a 'search' action (Ctrl-F) that will move focus to curent tab's search field - or to play queue search field (if play queue has focus).
8. Add 'Raise' support to MPRIS interface.
9. Added a cantata-specific dbus interface with 'showPage(page, focusSearch)' method. So, to raise cantata, show library page, and focus on its search field:
qdbus org.kde.cantata /org/mpris/MediaPlayer2 Raise
qdbus org.kde.cantata /cantata showPage library true
'page' can be either; library, albums, folders, playlists, dynamic, streams, lyrics, info, serverinfo, or devices. The page will only be shown if it is currently enabled.
10. Show song information in playqueue tooltips.
11. Default to 'Alt+' for page shortcuts.
12. Improve MPD connection reliability. When one socket (command or idle) is disconnected, only reconnect that one. If a reconnect fails, then disconnect both. If we receive an empty reply to a command and socket has been closed - then attempt to reconnect and resend command.
13. Request list of URL handlers immediately after connecting.
14. Check if user is a member of 'audio' group at start-up, and warn if they are not. If a user is a member of 'audio', then cantata will save covers, lyrics, imported songs, etc, as writeable by 'audio'
15. Attempt to read defaults from /etc/mpd.conf (This is usually readable by 'audio' group)
16. If connection fails due to password, then state this in error message.
17. Add extra-large cover sizes (64pixels library, 160pixels albums).
18. Show full size cover image in tooltip for current track cover preview widget.
19. Update copy of ebur128
20. Fix fetching of covers for grouped playlists.
21. For sshfs devices; check ksshaskpass is installed, and check that cantata was not launched from the commandline (otherwise ksshaskpass is not
invoked!)
22. Add option for UMS devices to autoscan, or not, when detected - default is set to not autoscan.
23. Fix detection of some UMS devices that are already mounted at startup.
24. Load library view covers in separate thread, as per albums view.
25. Add expandAll (Ctrl +) / collpseAll (Ctrl -) actions to expand/collapse all items of currently focused treeview.
26. Emit dataChanged() for all album header items that match the album currently being expanded/collpased in the groupedview.
27. Add a basic 'sync' dialog. Shows two lists; left has songs that are only in library, right has songs that are only on device. Each has a 'Copy to' action. When songs are copied, the lists are updated to show the remaining differences.
28. Fix albums view position when going back from album contents.
29. Add option to draw (15% opacity) tiled cover as background to lyrics page.
30. When clicking on a label, pass focus to buddy widget. If this buddy is a checkbox, then also toggle its state.
31. When grouping songs into albums, take into account song year. Its possible for an artist to release two albums with the same name in different years!
32. Remove 'Single Tracks' cover creation. This is not used in grouped view, etc.
33. Limit downloaded covers to a max of 600x600 pixels.
34. Dont update 'current song' details when playqueue is updated - the current song is updated by other means. As we now use 'plchangesposid' to speed updates, we dont always have the full song info when playqueue is updated. This fixes a bug where the cover widget sometimes gets reset to empty.
35. When updating a non-MTP device, prompt the user as to whether to perform a partial scan (only new songs are scanned), or a full scan (where all songs are rescanned).
36. When creating/editing a SSHFS remote device, allow user to use KDirRequester to select music folder. (KDirRequester is passed an sftp:// url to obtin folder listing).
37. When refreshing lyrics, instead of starting at first provider and iterating them all again (which will result in the same hit again), start at the next provider. This allows all providers to be checked. Thanks to Martin Blumenstingl for the patch.
38. Fix copying track from MTP devices.
39. When performing a custom lyrics search, and we have no current song, dont attempt to save the file to MPDs music folder (there is no valid filename).
40. When adding items to playqueue, only start to play if playqueue was previously empty.
41. When determining indexes to add to 'selectedIndexes' for a collapsed album (in grouped style play queue/lists), ensure each index is only added once.
42. Fix loading of songs via commandline if we are set to use HTTP server.

FAQ
Q how to move status bar and preedit bar?
A drag using right mouse button, the position will be memorized.
Q does the input method started by kimtoy conflict with the one started by system?
A you can configure kimtoy to start an input method when kimtoy application starts. but if your system has been set a default input method, please disable autostart feature in kimtoy.
Q does the environment variable settings in kimtoy affect the system ones?
A the env set in kimtoy will overwrite the system ones.
Q why does the text in preedit bar differ from the one specified in the theme?
A since the font specified int the theme is missing in your system, kimtoy will fallback to the default font, which is usually sans serif. you can set custom font to replace the font specified in the theme.
Q why do some status bar icons positions have offset sometimes?
A because the position count specified in the theme may be lesser than actual icon count, and kimtoy can not decide what should be shown and what should not.
Q my ibus settings got lost, how to restore it ?
A kimtoy use kconfig to store ibus settings, please configure your setup again. it is not possible for kimtoy to migrate your settings from gconf/dconf to kconfig at the moment.
Q how to hide some property icons on status bar ?
A right click on status bar and then uncheck the entries in context menu.
