Details Emerge On Bungie's New Game
Our friends over at NeoGAF have gotten ahold of some legal documents, disclosed by Activision. These documents detail the upcoming project by Bungie for them and reveal some juicy details we might not have seen until E3. These documents were required to be released due to a lawsuit in which Activision is involved with the creators of the Call of Duty franchise. Lucky break for all of us Bungie fans eh? All the important points have been handily summarized by the GAFfers below.

  • Massively multiplayer style, sci-fantasy action shooter series codenamed Destiny with expansion packs codenamed Comet.

  • Four games releasing in 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019.

  • Four expansion packs releasing in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020.

  • The main games will be retail.

  • There will be other DLC, subscriptions, microtransactions, and value added services.

  • The first game will be an Xbox 360 and "Xbox 720" timed exclusive.

  • Activision and Bungie are considering a PS3 version of the first game in 2014.

  • The second game is targeted for 360, 720, PS4, and Windows PC, though the contract notes that some of those SKUs may be dropped if they decide they are not worthwhile or not technically feasible.

  • Activision can terminate the contract without penalty if Destiny doesn't sell at least 5 million units in the first six months, or for any reason they please after the second expansion pack releases.

  • Bungie is also working on a Marathon game, but currently no more than 5% of their staff (nor more than 5% of their key staff) can work on it, and the amount of employees that can work on it goes up slowly as they hit cumulative profit goals. There are also limits on when Bungie can release Marathon. For specifics on this see the contract images at the bottom since it's pretty lengthy.

  • The game is targeting a rating of Teen/PEGI 16, but Bungie is not contractually held to hit this mark.

  • The contract implies the game has in-game Game Masters, like those people who work for Blizzard and handle user requests in World of Warcraft while playing some kind of digital representation in the MMO world (or at least being accessible through in game chat).

  • Bungie will receive a $2.5 million bonus if Destiny achieves a GameRankings.com rating of 90 or higher on Xbox 360 as measured 30 days after release.

  • Bungie will also get a 20% royalty of the first $100 million in cumulative operating income, 24% on the income between $101-$400 million, and 35% on the income $401 million or above. These royalties are subject to a penalty of 2%, 2.4%, and 3.5% respectively if the games are delayed for reasons caused by Bungie within reason (i.e. if an earthquake destroys their studio they're not at fault, but if they just don't get the game done on time they are). These last two bullet points I'm leaving in the contract itself to cut down on OP length.

After last night's explosive finale of Revenge, fans are left with only one question... what happens next in season 2?

Series creator Mike Kelley has confirmed to press that the season 2 premiere will start with a wedding. At first he lead us to believe it would be Emily's wedding.... However, he has backed off a bit from saying that in more recent interviews. Could it still be Emily's? Maybe... but after the finale, I'm not to sure how that would work... Maybe Daniel and Ashley? They seemed to leave us hanging with a little something there tonight. Although, I think the most likely candiate for this ( and also the most obvious ) would be Jack and Amanda. Perhaps the biggest shock of last night's finale was Amanda Clarke showing back up in the condition that she did (Trying to stay spoiler free!), but would this pairing be too obvious?

What else should fans expect with season 2 of Revenge? Less repeats. ABC TV president Paul Lee told press that his goal was to find a way to air the show in more of a continuous block next season, and that this would be accomplished by staggering the season premieres of ABC's Fall lineup.

"The intention is to have 'Revenge' absolutely do 22 episodes," Lee said. "So stagger your launches, make sure you have room to do it, make sure you can throw a network behind it and support it, and not have as much clutter on your own network as you launch," Lee explains. "I think certainly you're not going to see as many repeats as you did last year."

ABC renewed Revenge earlier this month, which shouldn't come as a surprise to fans after the stellar ratings and hype the series has received in the first season.

Did you see the season finale of Revenge last night? Sound off below and let us know your thoughts... and which moment shocked you the most! Free free to fill the below up with spoilers from last night's finale!

Today on The Daily Verse, we have a new revised version of the Nintendo Wii U controller to show you as well as some interesting new information on what we can graphically expect from Wii U.

Revised Wii U Controller Leaked
A QA tester over at TT Games has recently leaked a new revised Wii U controller from Nintendo. This was likely to be re-revealed at Nintendo's E3 conference in two weeks. Some small details can be noted about the change, the biggest of which is that the two circle pads have been replaced by what is certain to be analogue sticks. Other changes seems to be that the screen is slightly larger and the two analogue sticks are closer to the edge. The start and select buttons have been moved to just under the ABXY buttons as well.

text Catrap Review: Old Time Goodness
Thu, 24 May 2012 07:44:53 -0500
Catrap
Nintendo 3DS - GameBoy VC ($2.99)
Nintendo
Puzzle Game

What is Catrap you may be asking yourself? This is pretty much a simple puzzle game in nature, but don't let that fool you. The game gradually becomes more difficult to solve as the levels progress onwards. With one hundred total levels, this game is no push over in content and difficulty. This is the perfect game for puzzle lovers out there.

The objective of each level is to clear out all the monsters. To do this, all you have to do is touch them by knocking them out. But the part that makes it a puzzle game is figuring which rocks to move and which blocks to break and so on to move and clear the level. This is simple in nature, but complex levels require a lot of planning and foresight in completing each level.

Luckily, the game offers a rewind ability to help you out. If you become stuck or need to undo or redo a mistake, you can at any time rewind your moves. This mechanic basically influenced future games like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. So don't worry if you make a mistake, as you surely will. This becomes very much used in later levels as there becomes little room for error.

Catrap involves not one but two characters to use. When playing, you normally select which one you want to go as. But some levels will actually have you controlling both by switching control back and forth between them with "select" or "Y" on the 3DS. This ups the puzzle difficulty level and makes things a lot more challenging and exciting.

Being a GameBoy game, don't expect too much out of the graphics and sound. Even with that said, the sprites are nice to look at and have cute animations as well. While there is not much music in the games, it does add to the addictiveness of the game as you play it.

In the end, I heavily recommend this game to all who have a Nintendo 3DS and love puzzle games. Don't let the age of the game trick you, there is plenty of levels to beat for hours to come. This will scratch your itch for some challenging puzzles to solve.

Review: 9/10
Taylor Momsen doesn't sugarcoat descriptions of her music with deep and insightful words. She just cuts to the chase. It is what it is - rock and roll.

I sat down with Taylor at her Atlanta show back in April, and she talked with me about her music and its evolution. It was clearly a personal topic to her, but she doesn't like to talk about the meaning of the songs.

"I like to just let the music speak for itself, and let fans interpret the music for themselves. I think that's what makes music interesting." Taylor says, "I don't know what Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were actually thinking about, or what it meant to them, but I know what it means to me."

Taylor Momsen's Musical Evolution

If you've followed Taylor's career at all, it's not hard to see how much she's changed over the years. Evolution is unavoidable as an artist, and it is perhaps the most daunting part of it. It's easier with your first album. You have no expectations to live up to, but you do with your following albums.

"The biggest thing that has evolved is what my standard of great is." Taylor reveals. "From writing the first album to going into the second one, the song writing has definitely evolved. Before I was just competing with other people, and now I'm competing with myself. So the bar of what I consider to be great has definitely been raised."

The Song Writing Process

Taylor reveals that every song has a different writing process. She's constantly looking for things to inspire her, and sometimes it starts with a lyric or a melody... and sometimes just a simple E-chord.

"There isn't really a process which is what really makes it so torturous." Taylor says. "Every song comes from a different place. It is very song-driven though, we're not writing for a sound or a concept or anything. With every song, it's just write a good song. Okay... now write another good song."

Taylor Momsen's Style

When you're talking with Taylor, you can't help but notice her distinct vintage style with a hint of goth. Like most girls, Taylor loves to express herself through fashion, and she just loves what she loves.

"I don't really have a fashion icon. I love the 60's, and I love vintage. I tend to shop most at thrift stores and vintage stores. I like finding one-of-a-kind pieces that can be worked into something new and interesting. I tend to repeat outfits a lot... just because if I like it, why the f*** can I only wear it once." Taylor reveals. "I don't like that Hollywood rule."

Geeking Out With South Park And Sleep

While Taylor and her bandmates have thousands of fans who make a point of buying her merch and coming out to her shows, one can't help but wonder - what does the band geek out with on the road? What are they a fan of? Taylor is straight with me. Sleeping.

"Sleeping is key and rare." Taylor says. "It's a 24 hour a day job when you're touring - between interviews, soundchecks, shows, fans, and everything. It kind of never ends. We watch a lot of movies, play guitar, I'm of course writing the new record. It's definitely been interesting learning to write on the road... Trying to find privacy in a bus of 12 people."

It's not all work and sleep though, Taylor also reveals that they have their fair share of drama on the bus, and they also enjoy watching movies and episodes of South Park.

Most Memorable Pretty Reckless Fan Experience

When I ask Taylor about her most memorable experience on this last tour, she sighs and sits back. "Where to start with that one? We've definitely had some memorable ones..." she smiles.

Between Taylor, her personal assistant, and her tour manager - the tale of how one fan got in the car with the band and crew was told. As they were rushing to get away from paparazzi at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, Taylor and about 20 other people with their group crammed into a car and took off down Sunset Strip. They were trying their best to avoid photographers. A few moments later, they all started asking each other who this girl was that was sitting on Taylor's manager's lap. No one knew who she was...

"This super hammered girl just jumped in the car, and she could barely keep her head up." Taylor recalls. "We were like - you just have to get out of the car. We're sorry, but you need to leave. She was trying to come back to our hotel. We literally got pretty far before we realized though. It was so chaotic and there were so many people. We had a lot of our band and crew's friends with us, so we just didn't think about it."

What became of the fan? They're not exactly sure.

"We just left her on the corner. We couldn't turn around, we were getting chased." Taylor explains.

The Pretty Reckless Atlanta Show

Fans at the Atlanta show seemed a bit tamer than that fan. However, it was an interesting and diverse crowd of fans that showed up at the Atlanta show. There were young girls, whose parents patiently waited in the back of the venue while sipping on their tasty beverages. There were college-aged guys and gals, a few that had too much to drink (and were trying hard to keep it down), and there were even a few lesbians making out in the middle of the venue. Despite the diversity, all of these individuals created a perfect sea of fans that existed harmoniously when Taylor performed. It was all about the music.... and it probably didn't hurt that Taylor is damn sexy too. It wasn't hard to feel like you were back in the 70's at a small club, soaking up the time era that you missed out on and so desperately wanted to experience.

So what's next for The Pretty Reckless? They just finished playing a number of shows opening for Marilyn Manson, and are going to be in the studio working on the new album until they head out to South America for a number of shows at the end of July and beginning of August. You can keep an eye on their schedule and new album release date news on their website at http://www.theprettyreckless.com/.

In case you haven't watched Toddlers & Tiaras in awhile, it isn't just the home to little divas anymore. On tonight's brand new episode, the series introduces fans to the newest "pageant prince" - six year old Traven.

Traven is among the biggest competition for contestants in Missouri's International Fresh Faces Pageant. He wows the audience with his onstage performances, but what may be of more interest to the viewers is his quirky antics off-stage.

In the sneak peek below, Traven let's his barber know that he wants to "fabulous and rich"... understandable for a little man with a thousand girlfriends. However, during his reflection period, Traven seems pretty disappointed in himself for lying about that number.

How does it all conclude? Traven fires the barber. Of course.

2+8=13? Hm... interesting. Perhaps he should be spending more time on things other than pageants?

text Mario Tennis Open Review: Serve Up!
Tue, 22 May 2012 17:03:49 -0500
After seven years, Mario and friends are back to play some tennis in Mario Tennis Open for the Nintendo 3DS. Does this latest edition ace it or does it fault when trying to score? The game manages to hit over the net to win, but just barely.

At the heart is five different sections to the game. This includes: Single Player, Local Multiplayer, Online Multiplayer, StreetPass, and Clubhouse. Single Player as you can guess has the Tournament mode, Exhibition mode, where you can create your own rules and quick matches, and Special Games. Don't forget to activate StreetPass, as every person you walk by will give you the chance to challenge them in a match. Tournament mode itself is pretty simple. There are a total of 8 sections, four regular tournaments and 4 star tournaments that you can unlock later on. These do get pretty challenging after a while. For those curious about how online is handled, sadly it is rather lacking. When you are online, you only get two options. Play with friends or play with strangers. No extra options are available to choose from. This is rather upsetting, as it would have been nice to play in a double match with a friend and random people. In clubhouse, you can buy items for your Mii character, change your outfit or greeting and look at your records. Items in the Item Shop become unlocked as you continue to play the game.

Unlike past handheld Mario games, there is no RPG elements to be found here. This is a bit of a letdown, as that is what help made past Mario Tennis games fun. The lack of these elements, is very much missed, and could of help made the game amazing instead of just ordinary.

In this version, there are times where you can perform special ball hit moves. This is based upon the glowing color circle that sometimes appears where the ball might hit. For example, a glowing red circle indicates the chance to do a powerful topspin, if hit would send the ball with a powerful force to your opponent that will knock them back. These do help to liven up the gameplay a lot and make it challenging and fun.

Hoping the game has lots of extra characters and courts? Well, while there are 17 total characters, only 4 of them are unlock-able. However, you can unlock different color Yoshi by scanning in QR codes. These 4 extra characters can be unlocked by finishing the four extra special games. In total, there are 8 courts that can be played with here, with the final one unlocked by completing the final cup in the Star Open Tournament.

Hoping the 3D effects would be used in a creative fashion? Unfortunately, there is barely any 3D effect to be found here. But, I guess with an above the court kind of view, it should be expected that there might not be any creative or interesting 3D effects. The game does look pretty nice and has some nice sounds coming from it however.

There are four extra single player mode to help keep you busy. These include a Ring Shot game, Super Mario Tennis, Galaxy Rally, and Ink Showdown. These are mainly just filler games to give you a little fun. But you should really check out Super Mario Tennis. As this allows you to play the original Super Mario Bros in a unique fashion. It really is quite enjoyable to play this special game.

The game is definitely fun; it just feels like it is lacking something extra to make it stand out. If you enjoy tennis and tennis games in general, you will probably enjoy this game. But if you're looking for a story mode or RPG like elements to help bring this game to life, you may feel underwhelmed. But the extra modes and online action will sure to help keep the action going for a while.

CW is trying their hands at what looks to be a Grey's Anatomy-style drama (hopefully not as dramatic as that since the cast dies in nearly every other episode it seems), called Emily Owens, M.D.. The series premieres this fall on Tuesday night's following Hart Of Dixie, another medical related drama which is entering its sophomore season.

The new series focuses on Emily Owens, who is a first year intern at Denver Memorial Hospital. Emily is hopeful that this life change will be a new beginning for her, and that she can put her geeky days behind her. However, as all medical dramas have taught us (*coughs* Grey's Anatomy *coughs*), hospitals are really just another form of high school... at least in the world of television. Let's hope they in no way reflect real hospitals!

Check out a clip from the new series below along with the official description for Emily Owens, M.D..

At long last, Emily Owens feels like she is an actual grown-up. She can finally put her high school days as the geeky-girl-with-flop-sweats behind her; she's graduated from medical school and is now a first-year intern at Denver Memorial Hospital, where she'll have the chance to work with world-famous cardiologist Dr. Gina Beckett - and where, not-so-coincidentally, her med-school crush Will Rider is also an intern. So why does everyone keep warning her that the hospital is just like high school? Emily soon finds out the hard way - her high school nemesis, the gorgeous, popular Cassandra Kopelson, is also just starting out at Denver Memorial, and it seems like they're rivals all over again - not only as surgical interns, but for Will's attention. Fellow intern Tyra Granger warns Emily that the cliques at Denver Memorial are all too familiar: the jocks have become orthopedic surgeons; the mean girls are in plastics; the rebels are in the ER, and Tyra has her own awkward place as the principal's kid - her father is the chief resident. Emily's the new kid all over again, and it's just as awkward as high school. Only this time around, Emily will have to balance the personal and emotional turmoil of social politics with the high-stakes world of life-and-death medical decisions. At least she has fellow intern Tyra and nerdy-but-cute resident Micah, to count on as friends. Emily is growing to realize that although she may be a geek, she may also grow to be a great doctor, flop sweats and all. The series stars Mamie Gummer as Emily, Justin Hartley as Will, Michael Rady as Micah, Aja Naomi King as Cassandra, Kelly McCreary as Tyra and Necar Zadegan as Gina. EMILY OWENS, M.D. is from CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television with executive producers Jennie Snyder Urman ("90210," "Lipstick Jungle"), Dan Jinks ("Pushing Daisies," "Milk") and Bharat Nalluri ("Tsunami"). The pilot was directed by Bharat Nalluri.

Let us know your thoughts on this freshman medical drama in our comment section below? Do you think Emily Owens, M.D. is a good fit for the CW network?
The River may have received the axe from ABC, but that doesn't mean that fans love it any less. Recently, Joe Anderson spoke about his role as Lincoln Cole on the creepy good series. Check out what he had to say in our interview below!

What attracted you to the role of Lincoln Cole in The River?

As an actor, I look closely at the character and arc of any prospective role. What is the dynamic and how many layers does this character have? Will I be stuck doing the same thing in a year's time as I was in the second episode? When I read the script of The River, I knew there was no way that was going to happen. That really appealed to me. I thought the father/son relationship was really interesting and there were many places where the writers could go with this story. I was hooked from the very start.

How would you describe the relationship between Lincoln and his
father?

It's an estranged relationship. I like to equate what it must be like to grow up with a successful father to the thought of being the son of Mozart. If that was the case, you really wouldn't want to play the piano in front of him. It's a similar situation for Lincoln. Emmet Cole is a world-famous wildlife television personality. He's about as successful as you can get. For Lincoln, going to medical school and leaving the life of the Amazon seems to be more of a surefire deal for him. If he does that, he wouldn't end up making the same mistakes his father has. However, he's tempted back to the Amazon when his father goes missing - and the story of The River continues from there.

When you read the script of the pilot episode, what did you think
Lincoln's arc was going to be?

The obvious choice would be for Lincoln to fill his father's shoes and become a young Indiana Jones-type figure on the same crusade that his father was on. But if you take into account the issues that happened before the pilot episode and the fact that they have an estranged relationship, then that wouldn't be an easy journey at all. I didn't think the writers wanted Lincoln to step into those shoes. I thought it was more likely for his arc to be about forgiveness and understanding.

He's growing up and realizing that there's more to life than books. He is studying for a good job, but there's magic out there and I think that's something that he wasn't necessarily aware of - and that's what he'll be discovering.

When you first signed up for the role, did the producers go into detail about how Lincoln would develop as the show progresses?

I was left completely in the dark, but that's what I loved about the project. Usually, when you read script after script, you can see a format developing. But with this premise, after a while you realize that your imagination is working overtime because there are so many possibilities. The writers don't want to tell us more because they want to keep us in the moment. And it means you're not worrying while shooting episode two about something that might happen in episode eight. You just live in the moment and I think that's exactly what they wanted us to do.

What's your standout memory from shooting the pilot episode in Puerto Rico?

There's a scene in the pilot episode where we're moving the boat and Leslie Hope [who plays Lincoln's mother, Tess Cole] is trying to floor the engines to get the boat off a mud bank. Well, that was all for real; there was no faking involved. They basically put the boat on a mud bank and then realized they couldn't get it off. When Leslie was revving the engines, there was mud, wood, stones and everything flying out of the back of that boat - and it wasn't moving. There were other memorable moments as well, like the time we had to swim under the boat and shoot upside down in the water. We got a lot of nastiness in our ears when that happened.

Was the film shoot challenging?

It was definitely challenging at times. Later on, you'd find yourself playing a scene and you'd go deaf all of a sudden. You literally couldn't hear anything because of what you got in your ears earlier. You learn to adapt very quickly when you're working on a show like this.

How do you think the cast would handle a survival situation similar to
the one your characters experience in The River?

I think we'd be okay because there's a fair balance of ages on the boat. There's a nice balance in terms of life experience, too. I think it all helps.

Did you have to learn about boating for the role?

No, not really. Obviously you don't want to be saying starboard when it's port, but it's a flat-bottom boat for navigating shallow river channels and it's not incredibly complex. It's not like sailing a ship where you have to hoist sails or climb the masts. There's none of that. On our vessel, you press forward and the boat goes forward. It's really quite simple.

There are some hauntingly chilling moments in The River. Are you a fan of the horror genre?

I've always been a big horror movie fan, but I don't want to see somebody sticking a screwdriver into someone's head or anything gruesome like that. If they're talking about doing it, then that might be quite interesting, but I prefer a different type of horror to the mainstream shocks and gore. I prefer psychological horrors like Michael Haneke's Funny Games and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. It's not scary but Allan Parker's Midnight Express is another movie in my top three horror films. It involves people in horrific situations but at the same time is based in reality, which I love.

Tue, 22 May 2012 08:18:55 -0500
With the Glee season finale tonight and the core characters graduating, fans can't help but wonder who is actually coming back next season. It has been confirmed that Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, and Cory Monteith will be returning for the 4th season of Glee, but what about the rest of the cast?

The McKinley staff is all returning, which includes Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, and Jayma Mays. We're also told that Heather Morris will be returning as well, and that Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Dianna Agron and Mark Salling, among others are in talks to return - though it has not been specified how long "returning" means.

"It doesn't mean everyone will be doing 22 episodes, but everyone wants to stay in our family and our world,'" Glee creator Ryan Murphy said in an interview with Vulture. "I wanted to make sure those actors know that if they want to have a home, they have a home. If they want to explore new and different things while also having a home, that is also an option."

"We had a meeting, and you know we've become like a family, and I said to them, 'Anybody who wants to stay on the show will stay on the show,'" Murphy added.

Also expect to see new big name guest stars next season on Glee including Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson. Hudson's story arch is said to begin in fall's season 4 premiere episodes.

We'll keep you posted as more Glee news surfaces, but rest assured that tonight's episode will not be the last time you see you're favorite core cast members!
